In Loving Memory of

DAVE QUAINTANCE

11-9-1928 ~ 3-20-2014

David Allen Quaintance, 85, of Lomita, California, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the Torrance Memorial Hospital.  Born in Los Angeles, California, to Fred and Hattie Quaintance, he lived most of his life in the Los Angeles and South Bay areas.

Dave embraced life with the same zest and affection as he embraced people.  During World War II, he  left home to serve his Country and joined the Merchant Marines .  He was just 16.  That was the beginning of Dave’s great adventure and tireless commitment to helping others and serving the community.   Dave worked at McDonald Douglas for almost 30 years where he eventually became a Personnel Community Service Member of the Board of Directors, attending many philanthropic functions on the Company’s behalf.   Dave had many accomplishments, like getting his pilot’s license at 40.  But he was most fond of recalling the time screen, stage, and television star, Debbie Reynolds, asked him to join her onstage for a dance, and when he and his friends were invited to appear on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno after local authorities caught them playing penny-ante poker in their mobile home park.

Dave had a passion for many things in life including Country Western line dancing, buying and selling garage sale treasures, and his volunteer job at the Torrance Memorial Hospital for the past 15 years.  He deeply loved his family and his dear, caring friends who stayed and prayed with him in his final days and hours.

Dave and Carol married in 1950, and had one daughter, Diane.  They divorced in 1962, and he never remarried.  Diane Dempsey of Dayton, Nevada, along with his grandson Michael, granddaughter Kelly, and great-granddaughter Sydney, will miss him very much.  He is also survived by his sisters Heather Hayes, Joann Holmes,  Beverly Quaintance, Lori Churchwell, and brother Bob Quaintance , as well as his many loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Chan, the second floor nursing staff at Torrance Memorial Hospital, Mary and the hospital volunteers, Hospice, and especially to Cheryl for welcoming Dave into her home and caring for him.  Everyone’s dedication, compassion, and efforts were a blessing to us.  We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.

A memorial service will be held honoring Dave on Friday, April 11, 2014, 10:00 a.m., at Rolling Hills Covenant Church, 2222 Palos Verdes Drive North, Rolling Hills Estates, CA  90274;  Phone: (310) 519-9406.  A potluck reception will follow.
